As
survivors narrates divine escape from Trailer that kills Seven
in Ibadan at the weekend
By Ayo Ademokoya
“I’m lucky to be alive today not by my own power as the
whole thing happened within a minute.”
This and many more are some of the submission of
Kafaya who on Monday morning narrated how it all happened and how she narrowly
escaped being crushed by the rampaging trailer that killed 7 innocent people at
the round-about junction, New -Garage, Ibadan on Saturday evening to
www.harohkah.blogspot.com.ng
“We were sitting here (pointing at the shop) together
with Iya Ope ( who was the 7th person to be crushed) at around
6:05pm when we saw the trailer coming from the Iwo road/Toll gate axis of the
express. I believe the driver headed that way when he knew that the break of
the trailer has failed.
“He did not know that the round- about has been
enlarged because he must have been conversant with the old round about which
was easy to navigate to podo/ Ijebu road unfortunately two Okada man was by the
road and the trailer crushed the two of them and dragged the bodies along with
him
“We weren’t expecting the trailer to face our side
but immediately the driver knew that facing the Akala way to Odo-Ona would be
much more a disaster because a lot of people, passengers and Okada riders are
so much busy at that point in time.
He suddenly swerved back towards the Podo/Ijebu side
before we could open our eyes the trailer jumped straight towards us, crushed
four people inside the tricycle (Marwa) and killed the driver and three passengers
inside it instantly.
"We ran for our live towards the opposite direction
but Iya Ope could not make because she ran towards the shop not knowing that
the trailer was actually heading towards the shop.
Her body was dismembered; her head cut off
immediately. It was a tragedy.
The most unfortunate thing was that Iya- ope just
came back to the junction not quiet ten minutes as she has been out since morning.
In fact she just did a wedding ceremony for her
daughter recently and just last week Monday, some
members of her family came to stop her from selling Paraga ( hot drinks) at the joint.
Another eye witness ,Yusuf deals with electronics
materials and the owner of the shop that was crushed by the trailer
corroborated the story and said that the victims has been taken to Adeoyo state
hospital. He however said that the driver is currently been detained at the Orita-Challenge
divisional Police Station pleading to Nigerians to assist them not to allow the
culprit go scot free.
Saturday 14th of November marked the 10th
month when a trailer killed scores of people at the same spot.
